Council available to comment on State of the Union address

WHO: James A. Klein, President, American Benefits Council
Lynn Dudley, Senior Vice President, Global Retirement & Compensation Policy, American Benefits Council
WHAT: The Council is available to comment on any health policy or retirement savings policy proposals arising from President Barack Obama's State of the Union address on Tuesday, January 20.

The president is expected to outline his proposal on retirement savings, which includes initiatives to expand access to savings, but also to limit retirement account balances. The Council issued a statement yesterday on why this initiative, intended to target individuals with large retirement account balances, will negatively affect younger workers and inhibit savings needed for future retirement security. Given the continued disputes between the President and Congress regarding the future of health care reform, we expect the President will address that issue as well.
WHEN: Any time following receipt of this advisory until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday and following the State of the Union address; including the day following the President's speech. After 6:00 p.m., please see the contact information below.
WHERE: Interviews may be conducted via phone, e-mail or in person at the Council offices at 1501 M Street, Suite 600, Washington DC.
CONTACT: For interviews with Council staff following President Obama's message, please contact Jason Hammersla, Council senior director, communications, at (202) 422-4652. You may also reach James A. Klein directly at (202) 494-4300 or Lynn Dudley directly at (703) 615-1990.
