Urge your representatives: reject efforts to limit clarification of hybrid pension plans in pension bill
Action Requested: Contact your congressman in the House of Representatives and urge them to reject the motion to instruct the pension bill conferees to accept the Senate hybrid pension plan provisions.
Background: On April 6, members of the House of Representatives will be asked to vote on a Motion to Instruct the Conferees, who are currently reconciling pension legislation, which would direct conferees to accept the Senate bill’s (S. 1783) provisions on hybrid pension plans. The Senate provisions are prospective-only and propose onerous new mandates.
The conferees are not required to follow a Motion to Instruct, even if the measure passes in the House. However, it could make it more difficult to achieve a comprehensive, design-based solution — without mandates or litigation carve-outs — applicable to existing and future plans.
The Council has prepared a set of hybrid plan talking points to help you understand and communicate the urgency of the situation to the conferees.
Please help: Contact your House members and urge them to vote “no” on the Motion to Instruct. To get the contact information for your representative, click here to access the Council’s Capitol Connection Center and enter your zip code.
