ACTION ALERT

March 29, 2006
AA 06–07

Sign on to business community letter to conferees urging comprehensive hybrid plan solution

Action Requested: Please review the business community letter linked below and contact Jill Randolph here at the Council if your company would like to sign on to the letter. The deadline is noon on Thursday, March 30.

Background: The retirement bill conference is underway and conferees will soon begin work on resolving the hybrid plan provisions of the House-passed Pension Protection Act (H.R. 2830) and the Senate-passed Pension Security and Transparency Act (S. 1783). A Council side-by-side chart illustrates the bills’ differences with regard to hybrid plans.

The Council continues to support a comprehensive, design-based solution — without mandates or litigation carve-outs — applicable to existing and future plans. Hybrid plans are essential to the continued viability of the employer-sponsored defined benefit pension system. The Council has prepared an updated set of talking points and an issue brief to help you understand and communicate the urgency of the situation.

The business community letter, prepared by the Council’s Special Council James Delaplane of the Benefits Group of Davis and Harman, LLP, is available by clicking here or by pasting the following URL into your Web browser:.

Please help: We apologize for the very fast turn-around time on this request. Please respond by e-mail and specify exactly how your company’s name should appear. The deadline is noon on Thursday, March 30.
